I mean, obviously they’re talented musicians. But all of their talent never feels like it’s in service of anything. They’re not emotionally stirring, or even that intense- it feels like they make 10+ minute long songs with multiple sections because they can, not because it is a good idea.
I just don’t get why they’re so popular and respected. It’s just Yes or Emerson Lake and Palmer for the crowd raised on metal.
Opeth is a band that is not very good.
