In Westeros, “Hill” is the surname used for bastards from the Westerlands. I think in future books/seasons there should be a character named Hank Hill, the bastard gas merchant. GRRM already introduced a Mr. Strickland in the most recent book. Maybe Hank Hill can provide some sort of clean burning wildfire for the Golden Company’s fire arrows.

Game of Thrones / ASOIAF talk…

[Heavily implied] spoilers for most recent Game of Thrones episode:

They also cut the scene where Robb is on the way to the wedding and decides that if anything should happen to him before he has a son, Jon Snow will be his heir. He even tells him mom and most of his bannermen, makes an official written declaration, and has one of the Mormont ladies (Jorah’s mom or sister) deliver it to Greywater Watch for safekeeping with Howland Reed. I found this extremely significant in the books for a lot of reasons, even though nothing has exactly come of it yet.

Almost all of the changes that the writers of Game of Thrones have made from the books have been fine. Some are arguably improvements. But goddamn did they drop the ball with the House of the Undying. Maybe I’m biased because I loved that chapter so much in the books, but it seems like they just cut out all of the badass prophetic shit and important foreshadowing in favor of exploiting the fans’ very obvious Daenerys-Khal Drogo feels. Even the way they had Drogon rescue Dany was stupid as hell. The dude just stands there and gets set on fire. In the book Drogon eviscerates a giant black beating heart that hangs above something that looks like the cover of an Electric Wizard album and the House of the Undying basically implodes like the House of Usher or something! That is so much cooler!

Possible Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire spoilers:

Do you think the writers of the TV show picked up on the subtext about Jon Snow’s parentage in the books? The two chapters from the book that most strongly suggest Jon Snow’s parents are not Eddard and “Willa” were cut from the series, so I’m not too sure at this point. I also get the distinct feeling that we won’t be treated to the Reeds telling Bran the story of how their fathers met, which is another big piece of the Jon Snow puzzle.

George R. R. Martin was given a few matchups between Lord of the Rings characters and A Song of Ice and Fire characters and asked who would win in a fight. He answered them all and laughed a lot.

There is kind of a spoiler for the third book/a scene that is probably going to happen in the first episode of this next season, so don’t watch this if you don’t want to hear that.

Part of me still thinks Game of Thrones season 2 might have been better if they had cast Kurtwood Smith as Stannis and had him call his counsel “dumbasses” all the time. GRRM could work the new catch phrase into the next book and come up with a cool medieval way of spelling it.
