I think it’s weird that in the Song of Ice and Fire fandom, A Feast For Crows is almost universally considered the worst book because half of the main characters/plotlines aren’t in it, but in the Dark Tower fandom, Wizard & Glass seems to be the most beloved installment despite 3/4 or more of the book being a flashback featuring only one of the four main characters.

My attempt at ranking the Square RPGs I have played:

    1. Chrono Trigger
    2. Final Fantasy VI
    3. Final Fantasy VII
    4. Xenogears
    5. Final Fantasy V
    6. Super Mario RPG
    7. Chrono Cross
    8. Final Fantasy X
    9. Final Fantasy VIII

Kingdom Hearts don’t count. Didn’t include Tactics or IV because I haven’t gotten far enough in either of them to make a fair assessment, suffice to say I like one of them a lot and the other not really at all.

The great thing is, I didn’t grow up with any of these games. I have played all of these within the last seven years.

  3. Started my annual Thanksgiving Metal Gear Solid 3 playthrough before work this morning.

Every time I play MGS2 or 3 after spending a lot of time playing other games, I appreciate the extensiveness and quality of the motion capture acting a lot more. Hideo Kojima’s sense of cinematic blocking is a lot better than you might expect from someone who’s never really directed a non-video game before.
